The thing about regret…

I’ve had a few regretful moments lately.

It started on Friday when I had to fork out R7k for two new tyres for my car. Why? Because apparently if you have a puncture you shouldn’t drive on run flats for more than a week. I regret not getting my tyre fixed sooner.

I spent Saturday afternoon with my sister and niece. Gosh but she’s growing up so quickly! We laughed and chatted and shared a bowl of chips with our quesadillas at Tasha’s. I regret not spending more time with her. She left me with the most beautiful bunch of flowers. Flowers, tulips

After an entire week of rain, I lay on the couch on Sunday staring out into the drenched garden. Summer is gone. Winter is on its way. I regret not spending more lazy afternoons next to the pool enjoying the rays of the sun. Next to the swimming pool in my cozzie

I continue to struggle with plantar fasciitis. Desperate to run and knowing I’m missing out on key road races, I regret not running more often during the last months of 2016. You can never make up that training time, it’s gone. 

I sometimes sit back and wonder how these things happen. Am I aware of it? Or does it catch me off guard? Can I make it up or fix things. Sure! But the feeling is pretty crappy in the moment. I suppose there’s no point in regretting but rather focus on what matters now! Learn from mistakes and move on!

  1. I thought the point of run flats was that you could do that? mm good to know though, D has run flats and this is probably something I would do!

    I try not to regret stuff. There isn’t often much you can do to change things so focus on doing things better next time 🙂

  2. My regret this week is that I once thought 26 was old and that I needed to start taking life seriously. I was living and travelling overseas but thought I needed to settle down. So I came home. I have not been back overseas and that was 17 years ago….

  3. I once read an article on JOMO – the Joy of Missing out/ something to reflect on. When I had an injury last year and was off for 2-3 months I started back at Yoga. Although frustrating to start because I wasn’t where I was when I left off, I enjoyed the change from my running. I had wanted to get back to gym and other things but I always put running first. It was a good change. I also got home earlier and although I missed the banter of track I somehow had a bit more space and time to do some other things I also wanted to do. So sometimes when we are injured perhaps instead of FOMO we should look and celebrate the JOMO. Many a patient has shared something they gained from their injury that wasn’t obvious initially.

    • It’s so funny because not running has given me so much extra time but I feel guilty about it. Like when I do get home before 7, and start supper early. It’s so lekker! So thanks, I love that! JOMO. And you’re right! I can maybe try something else in the meantime and actually enjoy it!
